Greening Harmony – Home and Community Gardens Project

Greening Harmony Garden Project LogoThis project provides the Living in Harmony community of Sedona opportunities for meeting community needs with on-going workshops to enhance garden skills, environmental sustainability, and nutrition education to improve personal health. It will enhance communication with neighbors through a quarterly newsletter and by creating a database of neighborhood needs and resources. There will be workdays and block parties to support gardens and community beautification and conservation projects.

The overall goal of this project is to demonstrate how through an all-volunteer, grass roots effort a community can become more sustainable and cohesive. We will assist the community to achieve the following goals with participation of the City of Sedona, non-profit partners, and the business sector:

Home gardens – Community Gardens
Pedestrian and bicycle friendly byways
Water harvesting and flood control
Alternative Energy sources
Food production, Neighborhood Farmers market, exchanges
Resource sharing − tools, knowledge, labor, skills, garden space, materials, etc
Communication network for information, advocacy, celebration
Services for those in need

Phase I of this project 2012-2013 is made possible through the generous support of the Sedona Community Foundation and the Verde Valley Medical Center Foundation and by contributions from individuals. We invite you to support this project, which may serve as an example of local solutions to local problems.
